Term 2

Hi everyone,

I would like to say a very big thank you to all the parents who supported their children in completing the Work Packages at the end of Term 1 and the beginning of Term 2. This was uncharted territory for everyone and your understanding and encouragement was greatly appreciated.

The children have settled back into school routines well and are incredibly understanding and accepting of the changes that have occurred this term such as: seating arrangements in the classroom, social distancing, regular hand washing/sanitising and all round personal hygiene, and arriving and leaving via specific gates.

It is also fantastic to see a lot of children doing very well with their Literacy Pro. We have many children who have achieved their Blue, Red and Bronze Certificates. Keep up the hard work with your reading, everyone.

Brilliant effort Jaedyn, Cooper, Ty, Kaden and Amber for achieving your Blue certificates. You are reading superstars!
Congratulations to Sonia and Shanuel, Laura, Ty, Kaden and Kabilan for reaching your Red Certificates. Keep it up!

Last week, Ms McIlwraith made a special visit to our classroom to present Merit Certificates to three students in Room 23. Amazing work from Jaymie, Jye and Setaesh who have been absolute super stars and are very deserving of these awards.

There are several things that I would encourage everyone to focus on at home:

  • Reading/Literacy Pro
  • Typing skills (and general familiarisation with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint)
  • Sitton Words
  • Times Tables
  • Study Ladder tasks

Thank you for all of your support,
Miss Ahearn :)

Good morning parents & carers,

I would just like to clarify that children who are attending school do NOT need to complete the online learning Work Package tasks. These Work Packages are for the students who are still learning from home.

Study Ladder
There are tasks on Study Ladder that are linked to the learning outcomes for each week. Students who are attending school are not required to complete these tasks, but are welcome and encouraged to do so for additional practice.

As always, please don't hesitate to ring the office if you need to contact me.

Thank you for your ongoing support,
Miss Ahearn

End of Term 1

To my beautiful Year 3s,

I hope you are all keeping yourselves busy at home and are helping mum and dad out with jobs around the house!
There are lots of things you can do for your learning at home, but there are also lots of great things you can do over the holidays to have fun too. Click on the picture below and see how many things you can tick off!

I hope the Easter Bunny visits you and I wish you a safe, relaxing and restful holiday.
I'm missing you all very much!

💕 Miss Ahearn ðŸ’•

P.S When he isn't busy sleeping, Griff and I will be checking Literacy Pro during the holidays to see who our reading super stars are 💫

P.P.S Maria-Bella, I hope you don't mind but Griff LOVES the teddy you gave me for Valentine's Day! He carries it all around the house with him and cuddles it all the time. I think it reminds him of his brothers and sisters because it's the same colour and texture.

Parents and Children at Home

Hi everyone!
Just a quick message to my beautiful students who are learning from home at the moment. You are missed dearly here at school. Do not forget what an important part of our class you are, even though you are not here.
Parents, please phone the school if you need to contact me.
Please see below a list of some things you can be doing to continue your learning at home.
Just click on the headings below and they will take you where you need to go!

You already have your homework sheets glued in for the rest of the term. Please continue to complete your homework each day.

It is vital that you keep practising your Sitton Words every day! Students need to be able to spell the first 400 words and read the first 500.

Your logins are in your homework books.
Try to do at least 15 minutes of typing each day. Touch typing is one of the most valuable skills to have. I will be checking our Typing Club leader board every day.

Your logins are in your homework books.
Keep reading! I will be checking Literacy Pro every day to see who is still doing lots of reading and quizzes. I am updating my leader board in the classroom every couple of days too. Some people are VERY close to receiving their blue or red certificates.

Your logins are in your homework books.
There are specific Literacy and Numeracy activities that I have selected for you to complete.
This is a wonderful website to help you write narratives (stories). Your story must have a character, setting, problem & solution and don't forget to use lots of adjectives and adverbs!

Students of Room 23 are brilliant at their times tables. Keep working on your times tables every day. There are many websites, apps and games to play to use to help you learn these.

Top Marks money game. Don't forget to use Australian Dollars (AUD).

Ducksters (science)
We are currently learning about states of matter. You can also research any other science concepts that interest you!

Art Hub

Get creative with some directed drawing!

The Department of Education has also set up a Learning at Home site online for students to continue their learning at home.

A huge congratulations to these keen readers for receiving their blue certificates in Literacy Pro last week! A wonderful effort, keep it up!
An extra congratulations to Milla for ALSO receiving her red certificate!
Milla, Suha, Jye, Setaesh, Maria-Bella & Ella

Outstanding work from these superstars who received our first Merit Certificates for 2020 at Assembly on Friday. You are phenomenal!
Laura, Cooper & Jaedyn

"What Makes Me Special" Presentations

In Weeks 4 and 5 students delivered their 'What Makes Me Special' speaking and listening tasks. I was so impressed to see the effort that went in to their presentations, props, posters and PowerPoints. It was a lovely reminder of just how special and unique the children of Room 23 are!
Our focus now is to make sure we do lots of rehearsals so that we don't look at our notes too much and to use expression in our voices.

Room 23 Class Timetable

Term 1

Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend our Parent Information Evening. If you have any further questions or were unable to attend, please don’t hesitate to come and speak with me.

As mentioned at our Parent Information Evening, we have a student in our class who has a severe allergy to peanuts (anaphylaxis). I ask that you are diligent when packing your child's lunch to ensure that it does not contain PEANUT BUTTER or any other nuts.

During these first few weeks of the term, I have been pleased with the effort made by the children to transition smoothly back into school and classroom routines. It has been fantastic to see the students of Room 23 showing common sense, initiative and independence in our classroom.

Congratulations to Ella and Ty who have been elected as our Student Councillors. I'm sure you will both do a wonderful job representing our class this semester.

Homework
Practice Time (30 minutes)
> Homework is to be managed by the student.
> The same work standards are expected - writing in pencil, neat handwriting and neat ruling up.
> Students must bring their homework into school every morning for checking.
> Above all else, reading should be made a priority

Homework will be distributed on a Monday and returned to school for checking and testing on Friday. Children are expected to complete their homework each night, however, if they require additional time over the weekend, they may let me know.
I have run through the expectations of homework with the children and they know that they can come and speak with me if there is anything they are unsure of. Please ensure you are checking your child's homework folder regularly for any written communication from the school or myself.

Reading - home reading/Literacy Pro (15 minutes minimum)
Spelling - phonic/sight words list (approx. 5 minutes)
Numeracy - mental maths (approx. 5 minutes)
Numeracy - times tables (approx. 5 minutes)

Literacy Pro
Students in Years 3-6 participate in the Literacy Pro reading program.
Please see the inside cover of your child's homework book for login details.

Typing Club
The children of Room 23 are continuing to learn to touch type using the free online program Typing Club.
Typing Club teaches children to use the correct finger positioning and the children have been thoroughly enjoying this part of the day. I encourage children to use the typing program at home when possible, but it is imperative that they are using the correct finger positioning and not defaulting back to using their two index fingers.
Whilst I am aware that some parents would prefer not to let their child on the home computer/laptop, I encourage you to do so as it is vital that they get as much practice as possible. I will be teaching them how to find the website, how to log in and how to use a computer responsibly at school, which will make this process easier for you at home.
Please see the inside cover of your child's homework book for login details.

Junior Choir
Junior Choir will be commencing for Year 3's this term. For those students that wish to participate, Room 23 will be attending practice sessions on Friday mornings from 8:30-9:00am. Please ensure that your child is at school on time.
