Room 23 Class Timetable

Term 1

Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend our Parent Information Evening. If you have any further questions or were unable to attend, please don’t hesitate to come and speak with me.

As mentioned at our Parent Information Evening, we have a student in our class who has a severe allergy to peanuts (anaphylaxis). I ask that you are diligent when packing your child's lunch to ensure that it does not contain PEANUT BUTTER or any other nuts.

During these first few weeks of the term, I have been pleased with the effort made by the children to transition smoothly back into school and classroom routines. It has been fantastic to see the students of Room 23 showing common sense, initiative and independence in our classroom.

Congratulations to Ella and Ty who have been elected as our Student Councillors. I'm sure you will both do a wonderful job representing our class this semester.

Homework
Practice Time (30 minutes)
> Homework is to be managed by the student.
> The same work standards are expected - writing in pencil, neat handwriting and neat ruling up.
> Students must bring their homework into school every morning for checking.
> Above all else, reading should be made a priority

Homework will be distributed on a Monday and returned to school for checking and testing on Friday. Children are expected to complete their homework each night, however, if they require additional time over the weekend, they may let me know.
I have run through the expectations of homework with the children and they know that they can come and speak with me if there is anything they are unsure of. Please ensure you are checking your child's homework folder regularly for any written communication from the school or myself.

Reading - home reading/Literacy Pro (15 minutes minimum)
Spelling - phonic/sight words list (approx. 5 minutes)
Numeracy - mental maths (approx. 5 minutes)
Numeracy - times tables (approx. 5 minutes)

Literacy Pro
Students in Years 3-6 participate in the Literacy Pro reading program.
Please see the inside cover of your child's homework book for login details.

Typing Club
The children of Room 23 are continuing to learn to touch type using the free online program Typing Club.
Typing Club teaches children to use the correct finger positioning and the children have been thoroughly enjoying this part of the day. I encourage children to use the typing program at home when possible, but it is imperative that they are using the correct finger positioning and not defaulting back to using their two index fingers.
Whilst I am aware that some parents would prefer not to let their child on the home computer/laptop, I encourage you to do so as it is vital that they get as much practice as possible. I will be teaching them how to find the website, how to log in and how to use a computer responsibly at school, which will make this process easier for you at home.
Please see the inside cover of your child's homework book for login details.

Junior Choir
Junior Choir will be commencing for Year 3's this term. For those students that wish to participate, Room 23 will be attending practice sessions on Friday mornings from 8:30-9:00am. Please ensure that your child is at school on time.
